Who They Help and Why
LARC provides a supportive environment for combat veterans through employment, job skill development, sobriety maintenance, and coordination of care. Most of LARC’s facility caregivers, office staff, and board members are former military personnel.
The well-being of their animals and veterans are taken into consideration in everything they do. They provide ongoing enrichment, huge outdoor enclosures, and pack groupings dictated by the animals. Animal habitats are built with the animal in mind. That is to say, that they are not constructed for public viewing, but rather for animal enjoyment. LARC is not open to the public so that the veterans and rescues at LARC are given the privacy they need to heal and thrive.

Who They Help and Why
Military Makes Great Coaches!
It is a tremendous honor to be a coach. Military members have priceless leadership experience and knowledge gained from their service to our country.
Soldiers to Sidelines builds upon that experience and develops service men and women into expert coaches.
“We are dedicated to this mission. Based in the Washington DC area, Soldiers to Sidelines has an expert staff of youth coaches with experience coaching at the professional, NCAA, high school, and youth levels. Military personnel enrolled in our program will learn the most cutting edge coaching strategies and techniques to thrive as a soldier turned football coach.
Upon successful completion of the program, our team works to place Soldier Coaches with a youth or high school sports program.
Currently, participation in all of youth sports is declining, and 70% of all youth athletes quit playing sports by the time they reach high school. The number one reason for this decline is kids are not having fun. In today’s technology dominated world, kids have many options to occupy their attention. Dr. Amanda Visek, professor of sports psychology at George Washington University and Soldiers to Sideline advisor, is the leading authority on the concept of fun in youth sports. In her groundbreaking research (The Fun Integration Theory: Towards Sustaining Children and Adolescents Sports Participation), she shows that the three biggest factors that make sports fun are: Being a good sport, trying hard, and POSITIVE COACHING.
Kids like to be challenged, crave sportsmanship, and want positive role models to inspire them to succeed. There is nothing better than sports to grant these wishes for young athletes, and there are no better role models than our military elite.”
